What Your First Day at Horsham Coworking is Actually Like
Written by Matt Ide on .
Working from home was comfortable. Leaving it feels hard. Here’s what your first day at Horsham Coworking is actually like.
If you’ve been working from home for a few years, you probably don’t need convincing that coworking is “good for you”. You already know the benefits: structure, focus, human contact, a change of scenery.
The real hesitation is usually much simpler and much more human:
What will it feel like to walk in?
For a lot of people, the idea of turning up to a new workspace full of strangers feels weirdly like the first day at a new school. Where do I sit? Will I look awkward? Will people expect me to talk? Will I just feel… out of place?
If that sounds familiar, you’re normal. Almost everyone who joins Horsham Coworking felt exactly that before their first day.
So here’s the honest version of what actually happens.
When you arrive
You’re greeted by Matt or Dan, shown around, and shown which desks you can sit at (some are full-timers with their own desk). That’s it. No awkward spotlight. No forced introductions. No “tell everyone what you do”.
Some people put their headphones on straight away and get on with their work. Some grab a coffee and ease into the day. Some chat a bit. Some don’t. All of that is completely fine.
This isn’t a networking event. It’s a working day, in a shared space. It’s meant to be productive. But warm, friendly and relaxed productivity is the best!
What the space really feels like
On any given day, you’ll see a mix of people:
A couple of people deep in spreadsheets or code
Someone on a Zoom call
Someone taking a break in the kitchen
Someone just getting their head down and working with their headphones on
The atmosphere is calm, focused, and low-pressure. You’re not expected to perform socially. You’re not expected to “work the room”. You’re just… allowed to work, around other humans doing the same.
“Do I have to talk to people!?”
Short answer: no.
Longer answer: conversations tend to happen naturally over time, in the kitchen, over coffee, or when you start recognising familiar faces. But plenty of members come in, work all day, speak to hardly anyone, and go home happier and more focused than they would have been at home.
That’s a win too.
Why people usually come back
Most members don’t fall in love with coworking because of “networking”.
They come back because:
It’s easier to focus
The day feels more structured
Home and work stop blurring into one
They feel a bit more human again
They realise it wasn’t nearly as scary as their brain told them it would be
The hardest part is almost always the first visit. The second is much easier. By the third, it just feels… normal.
Not ready to work here yet? That’s fine.
If the idea of committing to a half or whole day still feels like a bit much, you’re very welcome to just pop in and have a look around first. We’ll show you the space, explain how it works, and you can decide in your own time whether it feels like your kind of place. No pressure to stay. No awkward sales chat. Sometimes just seeing the room is enough to make the whole thing feel much less daunting.
If you’re on the fence
You don’t have to become a different person to use a coworking space. You don’t have to be outgoing. You don’t have to be “good at networking”. You don’t even have to talk much.
You just have to try one day and see if you like it. There’s no pressure to come again. If it fits, it fits. Simple.
There’s a space here when you’re ready
At Horsham Coworking, we’re used to welcoming all kinds of people, and we understand if you’re a bit unsure, a bit out of the habit of being around other workers. We’ll show you where to sit, make you a coffee, and let you get on with your work. It’s what we do 😊
No pressure. No performance. Just a genuinely friendly place to get on with your work.
If you’ve been thinking about it or you’re curious, book a hot desk online for a day or half day and see for yourself how it feels. Sometimes the biggest upgrade to your working life is just changing the room you’re in.
Drop us an email at contact@horshamcoworking.co.uk or call us on 01403 586101 and we’ll happily answer any questions, talk things through, or arrange a time for you to come and have a look around.
